Spring 2010 McDaniel Prize
The McDaniel Prize awards students for their research and writing efforts on the Budapest campus. The Prize includes a chance to publish one' s work in the multilingual journal Kommunikáció Média Gazdaság [Communication, Media, Economy] as well as dinner at Budapest' s famous Rosenstein Restaurant. The competition includes two rounds:
  • the submission of 2,500 to 3,000 non-fiction research paper or essay;
  • an oral presentation and defense.
 
The three best papers are chosen by a group of faculty referees; their authors then have the opportunity to present their work in the final round, at the end of which the winner is chosen.

Wednesday, May 12 McDaniel Prize Open Forum—oral presentation round
 
Criteria for submissions
  • Non-fiction essays, analyses, and research papers
  • 2,500 to 3,000 words
  • Citations according to prize rules—Chicago-style citations, please see this PDF for specifics.
 
Criteria for evaluation
  • Development of ideas
  • Clarity of language
  • Depth of analysis
  • Coherence of arguments and proper use and citation of supporting evidence
  • Originality
 
Oral presentation round
  • Five-minute summary of paper' s thesis and themes
  • Ten-minute question-and-answer period
